Survival Tactics To Know For Survival

While reading the news today, I was getting concerned about all the things going on that might require some unique survival solutions. What Survival Tactics do we need to overcome some of these disasters?

Natural disasters may strike anytime unexpectedly. However, some can be detected before striking. Whether you know there will be a disaster, or one that comes as a surprise, be prepared. Prepare yourself for any disaster by having a tactical plan and needed supplies.

When planning and preparing for a disaster, consider food, water, medicine, shelter, sanitation, and communication. These are the needs that you must include when you are making a plan for any disaster that might strike your area. Make sure that you learn how to use those things before the disaster. You won’t be able to learn everything at once while you are stressed and panicking about the disaster.

I will review a list of the items that survivalists should consider when planning and preparing for disaster.

What Does Survival Tactics Mean

If you refer to the survival of yourself and anyone else, for that matter, you mean that you or they live through a dangerous situation where those involved might die.

However, if you refer to the survival of something or someone, you mean they manage to continue or exist despite difficult circumstances.

Survival Training

As a willing survivalist, you should learn as much as you can about survival tactics before the disaster. It will be difficult to learn new things when panicking during a disaster. Learn how to cook with other methods, disinfect water, how heat or cool a room, how to swim, and many more.

Have a survival plan in advance. You should know about natural disasters or any problems that are associated with your area. You should know survival tactics before the disaster strikes.

Know what you need for each disaster and put them in order. Make sure that the arranged items to counterfeit disaster effects are always ready. These things must at least last you and your family for the next 72 hours, and if possible, stock items that will last for a week because you will never know the severity of a disaster.

Have various communication sources. Your phone might be useful if you have various Emergency phone numbers that can be used to contact emergency officials. Make sure you have the latest emergency numbers that are working. A weather radio with rechargeable batteries might be useful. You might get useful emergency information like where to get food, medication, etc.

Hygiene is one of the most critical things during a disaster. People in a camp must at least have water and bathrooms. Various infections might be transmitted at a camp without proper sanitation.

Have a kit with basic needs, not wants. Don’t mix pleasure with disaster. The survival kit must have the needs, not the items you want. Needs are serious things you need to survive, and wants are associated with items you can survive without.

Ensure you have a kit for minor injuries and other medical issues. Buy extra medicine if you have a condition that needs the prescribed drugs. Practice using plants to heal wounds and injuries. They might be useful during a disaster since pharmacies might be closed.

Some form of disaster requires a strong shelter. You should make sure that the structure of your building is stronger. If you know your structure is weak, evacuating the building might be better before the disaster strikes. You might seek accommodation in safe places.

When struck by disaster in such a way that your residence is no longer safe, it’s better to seek shelter in nearby public facilities such as hospitals, airports, churches, schools, and many others.

If you are stuck at a certain place, find a way of alerting other people that you need to be evacuated. You might wave or fly a white cloth or any visible cloth wherever you are to notify any passers-by that you need help.

Preparing Survival Tactics Supply Kits

When preparing an emergency kit for any disaster, make sure that you include basic items. Understand food issues, water, light, clothing, communication gadgets, and medicine items. The emergency kit must-have items that can be used for more than 72 hours or more. These items might include:

1.   Food – Ensure non-perishable food items are in your emergency kit. Include food that can be eaten without being cooked. Check the expiry date of food and change it after some time.

2.   Water – have bottled water. Fill up the containers with water that lasts at least several days. Invest in chemicals or drugs to purify water.

3.   Light – buy rechargeable light. Solar lights or those that use batteries might be handy.

4.   Clothing – if you are evacuating, ensure you have clothes lasting more than 72 hours. Pack blankets and protective clothing such as goggles and masks.

5.   Communication gadgets – have a battery-powered radio. This might help receive weather updates and other emergency information from the local authorities. Have an emergency number for the local authorities, such as toll-free. When you are communicating, communicate wisely; give a proper address. A whistle might be useful to alarm passers-by that you need assistance.

6.   Medicine – have a first aid kit that has the basics. If you have a condition that needs prescription medicine, ensure you have enough drugs that can last for more than a week. Pharmacies might be closed.

7.   Temporary shelter – buy plastic sheeting or a tent that can be used temporarily. You can pitch it up at a safe place and shelter your family.

Consider COVID19 And Social Distancing

The world is currently dealing with an infectious disease, coronavirus, which is also known as COVID-19. The diseases require social distancing to avoid spreading diseases.

People must have masks to cover their faces to prevent the spread of diseases. There is also a requirement of proper sanitation, and people have to wash or sanitize their hands regularly.

When the disaster strikes with such conditions, all those COVID-19 issues must be factored in when planning for disaster management. The facilities that are used to shelter homeless people who were affected by disaster must consider COVID-19.

The beds must be spaced, and the facility must be disinfected to protect people from being infected by the coronavirus. People must have face masks, and water or sanitizer must be available to clean their hands. The shelter must not be overcrowded.

This means that the officials must have a plan considering the effects of COVID-19. The service providers, such as those who do road and power Maintenance, might not be fully available due to social distancing. The risk management preppers must consider all these things and ensure there is backup power in shelters.

The number of people that might need shelter is unknown and must be accommodated considering the consideration of COVID-19 effects.

Survival And Mother Nature

Different types of disasters might affect you and your survival tactics. The type of disaster might require similar planning, but it can be handled differently.

People must know how to plan for a specific disaster before it strikes. When planning for disaster management, you might be guided by the need for shelter, food, water, clothing, sanitation, and communication.

Below is a list of disasters and the ways to handle them.

Have a plan to evacuate and shelter your family away from the area that a volcano might hit. Use reliable sources of information, such as local authorities, and avoid unverified information circulating in social media.

Prepare a supply kit with basic needs that can cater to your family for more than 72 hours. The supply kit might have food, water, a first aid kit, respiratory protection, and a radio. Make sure you don’t inhale volcano ashes. Leave the area that might be affected by the volcano and seek shelter somewhere else. If you cannot afford to transport your family away, follow the local authority evacuation plan.

Earthquake

You can plan and prepare before the earthquake disaster strikes. However, you might be taken by surprise. Make sure you remain in a sturdy building structure and avoid being hurt by debris.

You can hide under a table or bed mattress. Avoid being near windows or outside. Don’t go outside, stay indoors. Earthquakes might result in other disasters, such as landslides, avalanches, and tsunamis.

Make sure you are prepared for those disasters that come along with earthquakes.

Flash floods

Use weather reports to prepare for flash floods. Weather updates might give a warning of flash floods. Leave the place that might be affected by the floods if you have the means to do so.

You may avoid being washed away by the rising water by staying in higher places. If you don’t have an evacuation plan, follow the advice from local authorities and prepare to be housed in public shelters. Have an emergency kit ready and evacuate with essential items. Avoid walking and driving in rising waters.

If you have the means, ensure your home or any other property has flood policy insurance.

Wildfires

Your home or building can be protected from wildfires. Make sure that it is clean. Dry grass and weeds around your home. Secure important documents and keep them safe.

Put your property under proper and valid insurance that will cover wildfire damage. Have an evacuation plan and take advantage of the local authority rescue team.
